VAN WERT – Brewed Expressions Cafe held their first Crafting for a Cause event Sunday afternoon.

The event was limited to 20 people who registered to build a spring block sign.

“The store owners, which would be (Frankie) and (Laura) Bowen, put this on and they decided that this would be something to do to be able to give back to the community,” said Sara Buuck.

Buuck helped put on the event through Uppercase Living, which is a company that offers a wide variety of vinyl lettering. Buuck provided the lettering that went on the blocks to spell out “spring” and included a bird and blooms.

A portion of the proceeds went to benefit the Van Wert County Humane Society Shelter, which guests Becky Stepleton and Ashley Rose felt was important.

“We really like to do arts and crafts events within the community, and it supported the Humane Society,” said Rose.

“It’s our way of giving back to the community,” added Stepleton.

Buuck noted that this event was the very first one and that Brewed Expressions plans to do two every month.

Brewed Expressions will be holding another Crafting for a Cause event on Sunday, March 26 at 2 p.m. A portion of the proceeds for that event will also benefit the Van Wert County Humane Society Shelter. The class will once again be limited to 20 people but the price will include a free large drink of choice.

Participants will create an Ohio State nail art sign, but must bring their own hammer.

Anyone interested in signing up should contact Brewed Expressions.
