CONVOY — Thursday night marked the end of the first regular season at
the helm of the program for Crestview head coach Mark Gregory, and the
last home game for his lone senior, Ashley Dealey. The Lady Knights sent
Dealey out in style as they rolled past Allen east at Ray Etzler
“I’m so proud of Ashley Dealey and what she has
become, the kind of character she has, and her leadership on this team.
She is a big reason why I think we have had the success we have had this
year,” Gregory said. “Just her leadership has meant a lot to this
The Lady Knights wasted little time getting a big lead as
Lyvia Black and Lexi Gregory drained long 3-pointers to give Crestview
an 8-0 lead and force a Lady Mustang timeout with 5:59 left in the first
quarter. The Knights weren’t done, as back-to-back jumpers from Ally
McCoy and a Black layup forced another Allen East timeout this time with
5:00 left in the first period and Crestview up 14-0.
Knights’ run ended at 16-0 as Gracie Young knocked down a jumper to put
Allen East on the board and later on a layup from Lauren Criblez brought
the first quarter score 17-4.
Crestview opened the second period
with another big run, this one the 10-0 variety, as Dealey got her only
bucket of the night with a baseline jumper to help her Lady Knights go
The Lady Mustangs got their first 3-pointer of the night
in the second quarter when Allyson Richardson splashed down a triple to
bring the score to 28-8, Crestview.
Paige Motycka scored four of the Lady Knights final six points to help Crestview take a 34-10 lead into the intermission.
Lady Knights got two made free throws from All McCoy and a trey from
Gregory to start the second half, 39-10 Lady Knights. The Lady Mustang
finished off the third quarter with a 3-pointer from Olivia Lawrence to
make the score 41-15.
Allen East knocked down two foul shots to
open the final period thanks to Tori Newland, 41-17, Crestview. The Lady
Knights responded with two points from Black and Emma Bowen. Later on
in the fourth quarter, Crestview got a 3-pointer from Lauryn Black as
Crestview began to empty their bench.
The Lady Knights ended the ball game with 3-pointer from Aleigh Chesbro and Lizzie Bowen as Crestview got the 55-24 victory.
one Lady Knights’ player who saw action tonight was unable to get into
the scoring column but coach Gregory was proud that 11 of the 12 girls
who played were able to score.
“I thought that it was huge that
Paige’s teammates step up for her tonight. Paige had a nice game, she
scored 7 points, but she did so many other things. She always does that
for us and that is why Paige is the player she is. I was so proud for
everyone who stepped up tonight and if you just look at the scoring
column you can see how everyone chipped in. We have talked all year
about having each other’s back and tonight was a perfect example of
that,” said Coach Gregory.
Crestview improves to 13-9 and 4-4 in
the NWC and won’t hit the hardwood again until next Saturday, Feb. 25,
at Allen East High School. The Lady Knights will take on the winner of
Upper Scioto Valley and Lima Perry, who tip off on Tuesday night. The
Lady Mustangs end the regular year 3-18 and 0-8 in the NWC.
