CELINA - The Mercer County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, April 7, at 2 p.m. at the Richardson Bretz Building located at 115 West Fulton Street in Celina.
The theme will be German Fest. The speaker, Dennis Hohne, is a 26 year old, born and raised in Eichwalde, a small communal town in the outskirts of Berlin, East-Germany. He states that he grew up in a time of world political unrest, a time in where the danger of world destruction, through nuclear devices, was as imminent as the flicking of a light switch. But the crumbling of the Soviet Union and the victorious rise of the democratic West, which would bring the fall of The Berlin Wall, enabled Hohne to spread his wings and experience a kind of freedom his parents were never able to embrace. These freedoms ultimately lead me to live a life far away from the borders of Germania, into a life in the United States. Hohne will be describing his childhood in Germany, education and military service.
The meeting is free and the public is welcome.
