SEYMOUR, Ind. - JayC Food Stores, a division of the Kroger company, is opening their third grocery store in Ohio under the banner of Ruler Foods. The store will have their ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 7 at 10 a.m. at the new location, 1118 South Shannon Street, in the Van Wert's Summit Shopping Center. According to Paul Bowen, president of JayC, the new Ruler store will provide another grocery shopping alternative for Van Wert and the surrounding area.
"The key is simplicity," Bowen said. "Our Ruler format offers very low pricing on quality products. There is a strong emphasis on the Kroger brand. Shoppers are focusing on price more than ever before. That's why we are expanding our Ruler 'extreme value' format, as another way to serve our markets." Bowen said that although the Ruler store will primarily focus on store brands, they will also offer national and regional brands. Another key to keeping costs down, he said, is low overhead. Customers at Ruler stores bag their own groceries, and "rent" a shopping cart for 25 cents, which is returned when the cart is returned. He also said that their Ruler format would concentrate on everyday low prices instead of weekly specials, with everyday savings on some items of up to 40 percent.
The store is the 15th Ruler Food Store opened by JayC in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. They have plans to open more Ruler stores this year in Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The company also operates 23 JayC Food Stores in Indiana.
