VAN WERT - The Van Wert City/County DARE Team would like to announce their upcoming 18th annual Golf Outing. The tournament will be held on Saturday, May 11 at the Hickory Sticks Golf Course in Van Wert. The tournament will start with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. In case of rain the tournament will be played on Sunday, May 19 at 9 a.m. The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 62 will be sponsoring the outing again this year.
All of the proceeds from the tournament go back to the youth of our community by helping to fund their DARE schooling on what the hazardous effects of Drugs, Alcohol, and Violence can do to them. DARE also teaches important family values and other important aspects that the children will need throughout their lives. DARE is a self funded program so it's through fund raisers like this golf outing that we are able to continue to help the youth of Van Wert.
We are still in need of hole sponsors at the cost of $100. Your company name or individual name will be put on a sign and then posted at one of the holes on the course. The sign shows that you are supporting the DARE Program.
The cost of the tournament is $50 per man. Four man teams. This includes the 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch and door prizes. The tournament is limited to 36 teams. Team rosters are available at Hickory Sticks Golf Course or by contacting either Officer Greg Blackmore at (419) 238-2462 or Chief Deputy Keith Allen at (419) 238-3866. Also if any other information about the tournament is needed feel free to contact us.
This is the 13th year that Young's Waste Service will be sponsoring the $10,000 Hole-In-One Contest which takes place on hole number four. The on three of the other par three holes on the course a hole in one will win a bonus prize. At the end of the tournament a chance to putt a 50-foot putt for $2,500 will be raffled off. Young's Waste Service has been supporting the DARE Program ever since their business opened. The owners Richard Riley, Rich Riley and Steve Hall said they believe in the DARE Program and what it does for the youth of our community.
