VAN WERT — Van Wert Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks announced that three contestants from the Van Wert lodge placed in the Northwest District Hoop Shoot competition held at the University of Findlay on Jan. 14.

Cali Gregory placed first in the 12-13 girls division shooting 23 out of 25 free throws.

Carter Hohman placed second in the 12-13 boys division.

Griffin McCracken placed second in the 10-11 boys division. He tied a boy from Delphos with 22 out of 25 shots. Both boys then went into a five-shot shoot off and were tied not once, twice or three times but it was not until the seventh shoot off that McCracken was bested by one shot.

Contestants from the 13 lodges within the Northwest District competed, attempting to make 25 free throw shots.

Gregory will compete at the Ohio Elks State Hoop Shoot in Gahanna representing Van Wert Lodge and the Northwest District on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Van Wert Elks Lodge 1197 was also represented at the district shoot by Chuck Rollins, Lodge Hoop Shoot Chairman, and Charles White, Exalted Ruler.
