In addition to our 35th Annual Wassenberg Photography Exhibit opening on Saturday, October 6 at 7 p.m, the art center has been busy updating all kinds of art class offerings, our 23rd Annual Artists Sale & Exhibit and forging ahead with the Armory renovations.
First things first! We cordially invite you to attend the Photography exhibit public opening reception this Saturday from 7 - 9 p.m. Awards will be presented at 8 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided by The Upper Crust, Wauseon and the menu includes, Fresh Bread Sticks with compound butters, Tomato Bites, Dinner Roll Finger Sammies, Panini Bites, Cheese Straws, Sweet Potato Fry Cakes and for the sweet tooth, assorted cookies, Pecan Tassies and Mini Apple pies.
Many of the photographs are for sale and would make excellent gifts for those you love or to add to or begin creating your own collection. This exhibit is brought to you by Citizen's National Bank and the Van Wert County Foundation and runs through November 2.
The call for entries has been mailed for our 23rd Annual Artists Sale and we'll be accepting entries from November 6-10, 1- 5 p.m. If you are a practicing artist, hobbyist or merely dabble, for the price of a $20 artist membership you can exhibit your work. Entries are judged for cash awards. The exhibit will open on "Black Friday", November 23 at 1 p.m. The opening reception will be held on Saturday November 24 beginning at 6 p.m. with great music, fine food and mulled wine. Awards will be announced at 7 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to begin your holiday shopping and purchase just the right gift for anyone. Unique and one-of-a kind items, crafted by regional artists make a wonderful way to say you are important to me and also a great way to support local talent. People appreciate art and in return, art appreciates for you!
The renovations and demolition work preparing our new home at the Van Wert Armory are continuing in earnest. The Building and Grounds students at Vantage Career Center are hard at work clearing out what remains of the ceiling tile tracks and old paneling. Windows are being uncovered and surfaces are being prepared for new drywall and other improvements. We again, thank these students and volunteers who have donated their time and energy to help create a new community based art center that will serve Van Wert in so many different capacities.
We've added more classes such as stained glass, ceramic/wood framing and basketry and they are now scheduled through March. If you are a member you will be receiving an updated schedule in the mail. Otherwise, you can see other offerings and sign up on our website, wassenbergartcenter.org.
We are looking forward to seeing the resulting creations. ...speaking of creations and creatures...just in time for Halloween we are offering a full stage make up class taught by Mark LeMieux.
