CELINA - Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that arrests have been made in the double murder case from 2011. Grey is holding a press conference on Wednesday to provide more details on the suspects.
According to a press release from Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney, one of those arrests is for an obstructing justice charge connected with this case. That person is 22-year-old Bryant L. Rhoades of Union City, Ohio. He is being held in the Mercer County Jail on the third-degree felony charge. That crime is stated to have occurred on or about June 4, 2012, more than six months after the killings. There is no information if Rhoades will face additional charges in the murder or if the obstructing justice charge is the only count to be filed against him.
On Nov. 30, 2011, the bodies of 79-year-old Robert Grube and his daughter, 47-year-old Colleen Grube were discovered in the home where they lived on Burrville Rd. near Fort Recovery. The pair had their hands bound with duct tape and were shot to death. Little information has been released on the crime, although Grey has stated that he has had investigators working on the case throughout the past 16 months.
Last year, on the first anniversary of the murders, Grey was expressing his optimism on the developments in the case.
"Before I was saying my confidence level was high, today I'm saying it is very high," Grey said in November 2012. "It's a case that we are very actively working and putting a lot of resources into. It's taken some time, but I believe we're going down the right path."
The Times Bulletin will have a report on the Wednesday press conference at www.timesbulletin.com late Wednesday morning as well as appearing in Thursday's print edition.
