VAN WERT - On Thursday, the Van Wert County Commissioners opened bids from farmers wanting to cash-rent the county's farm property. The land, totaling 304 acres, is located in Ridge Township. In the past, the cash-rent agreement covered two years, but beginning with this agreement, the term will be for three years.
Of the four bids, the highest offer came from Roger Rank of Triple R Farms, Inc. Rank bid $237.13 per acre. Other bids were opened from Dan and Jordan Miller ($201.72 per acre), Joseph N. Wittler ($208 per acre), and Todd Horstman ($205.50 per acre). Horstman was awarded the cash-rent contract two years ago with a winning bid of $182 per acre. The commissioners voted to accept the bid of Triple R Farms.
Commissioner Gary Adams shared that the county will be earning more income from the new agreement. "That will be about $16,000 more annually than we were getting, so we are very well pleased," he said.
