Presentations on this positive, Van Wert development are available so let us know if your organization would be interested in learning more about the Wassenberg Art Center's move and how the arts impact Northwest Ohio's economy.
I was reminded of a favorite poem today. The first time I was aware of this poem, it was being read by its author, Maya Angelou on a television off in the distance of a long forgotten waiting room or lobby. Years later, it still makes me sit up, pay attention and inspires me. Written about slavery and the persistent human spirit, this poem with its rich visual style is relevant to all. The first few verses go like this: "You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I'll rise. Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? 'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I'll rise."
The 23rd Annual Artist's Exhibit and Sale is our last exhibit of 2012. In the coming months we'll take time to begin to shape the Van Wert Armory from a dark, vacant building to a bright spot on our cityscape. The Armory will rise to become a relevant component of this community. It is an enormous, multi-faceted project and will certainly be an journey not to be missed.
