VAN WERT - One student was hospitalized after a crash involving a Van Wert City Schools bus Monday afternoon as the bus was delivering 24 students back home from Van Wert Elementary, Middle School, and High School.
At 4:05 p.m., a bus driven by Patricia S. Woodruff, 54, Van Wert failed to yield to oncoming traffic as she attempted to cross the intersection of Richey Rd. and Van Wert-Willshire Rd. While northbound on Richey Rd. the bus pulled into the path of a 2007 Ford Focus driven by Robert L. Roehm, 26, Rockford that was westbound on Van Wert-Willshire Rd. The Focus struck the side of the 2004 Blue Bird school bus. Both vehicles came to rest on the roadway.

Both Roehm and his passenger Amanda A. Roehm, 25, were treated for minor injuries on the scene by paramedics from Bricker Ambulance. The Roehms were each wearing their seat belts, and the OSHP, the injuries were minimized because they were wearing their seat belts. The other students on the bus were treated and subsequently released. No other injuries were reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The intersection was closed for approximately one hour during the scene clean up. The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Brickner EMS, Ohio City Volunteer Fire Department, Van Wert Sheriff's Office, and Van Wert City School Administrators.
