Woman killed in crash west of Celina

CELINA - A Maria Stein woman was killed Thursday evening after failing to stop at a stop sign and hitting a tractor-trailer rig.Michelle R. Bruns, 36, was driving north on St. Rd. 118 in her 2010 Lexus around 5:39 p.m. when she approached the intersection with St. Rd. 29, west of Celina. Her car went through the stop sign and collided with the westbound 2005 Freightliner semi driven by Thomas L. Sims, Jr., 39 of Indianapolis. Bruns' car became lodged under the rig and was dragged west of the intersection until both vehicles came to rest on the roadway.
Bruns was pronounced dead at the scene. Sims was not injured in the crash.
Bruns worked as administrator at Vancrest in Van Wert.
The Mercer County Sheriff's Office investigated the crash, assisted by the Celina Fire Department, Motor Carrier Enforcement Division, and Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers.
