To the Editor,

As we near the end of 2016, as Chair of our local Salvation Army Board, I would like to take this opportunity to offer my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all in our community who in some form or another gave of your time, talents, and caring attitude to help the Salvation Army reach their goals and carry out their mission of helping those in our community who are in need.

I will not mention specific names because I always fear if I do that I will omit someone and feelings will be hurt, but you know who you are just as we know. I am talking to those who supported us during our Capital Campaign for our new facility; our annual dinner and auction; our new endeavors with our booth at the Apple Festival and our first annual Turkey Trot run on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. I am talking about those who support the Thrift Store with both your purchasing and your donating; those who donate food items to the food pantry and to the groups who donate food items specifically for the Christmas food baskets. I am referring to those who donate toys and coats, hats and mittens for Christmas and winter weather. I am including those who held a LemonAID stand last summer and the businesses who have a special day where they share a percentage of their profits for the day with us so that we could continue our assistance programs.

And of course at this time of the year we can’t overlook those who volunteered to stand by the kettle and ring the bell in all kinds of weather and to the many of you who so generously put your money in the kettles to allow us to surpass our goal. And we can’t forget those businesses who allow us to put our kettles on their property and ring, as well as those who allow us to put a little red kettle on their counters. I am sure you have seen where these kettles were located and I encourage you to support them throughout the entire year.

I am sure I have missed something or someone but rest assured your giving is what keeps the Salvation Army going and in turn your giving continues to assist those in need in our community!

And last, but not least, I can’t forget our Officers and support staff - without their knowledge and leadership all of this would not come together! Thanks to one and all!
