VAN WERT, Ohio - Delbert C. Smith, 75, of Van Wert, died at 5:56 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
He was born Oct. 22, 1937, in Huntington, IN, to the late Iona Algerine (Kennedy) Smith and Chester Ray Smith.
His wife, Janet (Kyle) Smith, survives in Van Wert.
Other survivors include his children: Kimberly Ellis (Lee) Mynatt of Durham, NC, Rodney (Candy) Smith of Convoy, OH, Pam Smith of Van Wert and Michael (Tammy) Smith of Oakwood, IL; a brother: Carlos (Marie) Smith of Goldsboro, NC; a sister: Janet Garretson of Huntington, IN; grandchildren: Amanda (Brock) Overholt, Nathanael Smith, Jordan Smith, Arin Smith, Dezaray Barr, Joshua Barr, Nikolas Ellis, Maranda Mynatt, and a great-grandchild: Grayson Overholt.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Janet Barr; brothers: Gerald, Richard, Leo, Eloise and Fred Smith and sisters: Marjorie Caley and Joyce Worthington.
He retired from the Thomas Edison Schools as a workshop specialist. He had also worked at Fruehauf Trailer Company, Ft. Wayne, IN for 23 years. He was a member of Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert. He was involved with the Banquet Table Food Pantry at Trinity Friends Church and loved to decorate and make floral arrangements and wedding cakes.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert. The Revs. Steve Savage and Neil Hammons will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Preferred memorial is Vancrest Activities Fund or Trinity Friends Church.
