DELPHOS - George Sterling, 77, of Delphos, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born June 10, 1935, in Delphos, to the late Charles and Jessie (Follas) Sterling.
He was united in marriage to Fairy Etta Cross. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2013.
He enjoyed wood carving and working in his flower garden. He was a member of the Delphos Wesleyan Church. He worked in shipping at Harters Corporation. He was an Air Force veteran, serving for 10 years from 1955-1965.
Survivors include two sons: Max Douglas Sterling of Dayton and Donald Anthony Sterling of St. Marys; a sister: Mary (Ed) Rigdon of Venedocia; two brothers: Harold "Nick" (Phyllis) Sterling and Lonnie (Jeannette) Sterling of Delphos; brother-in-law: Roger (Shirley) Diltz; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kohler, Margaret Sterling of Delphos and Imalee "Lee" Sterling of California; stepson: Richard (Becky) Auer of Delphos; five daughters-in-law: Carol (Jerry) Hirn of Delphos, Dianna (Norman) Mullenhour of Kentucky, Shirley (Everett) Hall of Coldwater, Patty (Harley) Duncan and Mitzi (Dave) Huffine, both of Van Wert; sister-in-law: Margaret Sterling; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers: Vernon, Frank, Lester, Lewis and Ray Sterling, a stepson: Gary Auer, and a stepdaughter: Sue Ann Kohorst.
Services will be on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 12 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. The Rev. Wayne Prater will officiate. There will be military grave rites conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
