VAN WERT - Helen Bolinger Spoon, 84, of Van Wert, died at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
She was born July 25, 1928, in Van Wert County, to the late Frank Bolinger and Mabel (Chase).
Her husband, Jerry F. Spoon, survives. They were married Dec. 27, 1946, at First United Methodist Church, Van Wert.
Other survivors include a daughter: Linda (Wayne) Knodel Taylor of Van Wert; one sister: Betty (Noel) Moore of Bradenton, Fla.; her grandchildren: Ryan (Julie) Knodel of Lima, Heidi (Rich) Arney of Van Wert and Justin "J.J." Knodel of Asheville, N.C.; great-grandchildren: Alexa Knodel and Alaina Arney; sister-in-law: Marjorie Bolinger of Van Wert, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Kenneth Bolinger.
She had worked at the Bon-Ton in Van Wert, then owned and operated with her husband, the Goodyear Shoe Store in St. Marys from 1953-1995, then they retired and moved to Van Wert.
She was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church and the Dorcus Women's Group. She was a 1946 graduate of Van Wert High School.
Helen loved her husband, daughter and grandchildren and was dedicated to serving each of them. She enjoyed reading and cooking and was always friendly.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert. The Rev. William C. Haggis, II will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are Friday from 3 - 7 p.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorial is CHP Inpatient Hospice Center or St. Marks Lutheran Church.
