DELPHOS, Ohio — Jerome Burgei, 82, of Delphos, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
was born Jan. 3, 1935, to William and Margaret Burgei. Both preceded
him in death. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Pohlman on
Sept. 14, 1957; she preceded him in death on May 5, 2013.
survived by four sons, Rick (Barbara) Burgei of Delphos, Robb (Sherry)
Burgei of Delphos, Russ (Bonnie) Burgei of Pinckney, Michigan, and Randy
Burgei of Scottsdale, Arizona; a brother, James “Jim” Burgei of
Michigan; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
was a devoted family man – husband, father, brother, grandfather, and
great-grandfather. He served in the US Marine Corp from ’53 – ’57 as a
corporal E3 and honorably discharged completing assignments in Alaska
and Korea. He was always taking time to find a project or help a friend.
He was a dedicated member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church,
Delphos, where he rarely missed a 7:30 a.m. mass on Sundays. His faith
was instrumental in his life. He truly enjoyed spending time with his
wife and was always there to support her, especially in her love of
sewing for the community. They were rarely seen one without the other
over the years. He had worked at Ottoville Tile, Rand Corp in
California, and retiring from Federal Mogul in Van Wert after 37 years
of faithful service.
Mass of Christian burial will be on
Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic
Church, with military grave rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Father George Mahas will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John’s
Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and
5-7 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, with a parish wake to begin
at 7 p.m.
