CAREY, Ohio - John Thomas Steen, 63, of Carey, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio.
He was born in Carey, on March 14, 1949. He was the son of the late John M. and Vergie (Yates) Steen.
Tom married Linda Ziegler on June 24, 1972. She survives in Carey.
Also surviving are three sons: Kevin Thomas Steen, Carey, Scott Michael (Katrina) Steen, Van Wert, Ohio, and David John (Emily) Steen, Carey; seven grandchildren: Tifanie, Stefan, Tyler and Camille Dirham, Drew, Luke, and Eli Steen; two brothers: Kenneth Steen, Carey, and Jeffrey Steen, Powell, Ohio, and one sister: Yvonne Coleman, Okeechobee, FL.
Tom retired from National Lime and Stone in Carey in 2011, but his primary occupations were being a husband, father, and grandfather. Tom was also a farmer.
He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Carey.
Tom proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member and a past commander of the American Legion #344, Sons of American Legion, and Young Farmers of America. He also was an avid supporter of Carey athletics.
Tom was a 1967 graduate of Carey High School.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Carey, with the Rev. William Schultz officiating.
Interment will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Carey Honor Guard.
