Carol Rae Foster and Daniel Evans Foster
VENEDOCIA - Carol Rae Foster, 89, of rural Venedocia passed away Sept. 10, 2012.
She was born July 3, 1923, in Lima, Ohio, to Ott and Mary (Bollinger) Lanning. On Oct. 8, 1943, she married Daniel Evans Foster.
Survivors of Carol and Daniel Foster are sons: Lynn (Connie) Foster of Meridian, Idaho, and Eric (Luana) Foster of Dansville, Michigan; grandchildren: Christopher Foster of Deer Lodge, Montana, Charles (Pauline) Foster of Estacada, Oregon, Laura (Oswaldo Guevara) Foster of Shelbyville, Michigan, and Daniel Foster of Holt, Michigan; great-grandchildren: Lynn Foster II and Magdalena, Alejandro, and Javier Guevara; two stepgrandchildren, and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mrs. Foster was a 1941 Spencerville High School graduate and class valedictorian. She worked as bookkeeper and secretary at the Spencerville elevator before moving in 1959 with her husband and sons to the family farm in Venedocia.
There, she was a member and very active in Venedocia's Salem Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Beginning in 1968, she served as church organist/pianist where she shared her deep love of music for many years. She also provided leadership on a number of church governing bodies and in community organizations, and was a Grand Matron of Eastern Star. History was one of her many passions and with Arlene Morris she co-authored a History of York Township: 1836 - 1975.
Daniel Evans Foster, 90, of rural Venedocia, passed away Jan. 10, 2011.
He was born May 18, 1920, in Van Wert, Ohio, to Charles Henry and Mary Eunice (Evans) Foster. On Oct. 8, 1943, he married Carol Rae Lanning.
Mr. Foster was a 1938 graduate of York High School in Van Wert County and attended college at Bowling Green University and also Giffin College in Van Wert. He served during WW II in the Army Air Corps in Europe and was a prisoner-of-war in Romania. He retired in 1984 after 39 years as a machine tool operator at the Warner and Swasey Company in Lima. He was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church in Venedocia where he had served as an elder and trustee. He was a charter member, past president, and secretary of the Venedocia Lions Club; past master of Mendon Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons 586, and also a member of Shane Lodge, F.& A.M. 377; a life member of the POW Club of Lima; a member of the American Ex-Prisioners of War, N.W. Central Chapter; a life member of Bowersock Bros. VFW Post 6772 of Spencerville, and a member of the Ohio City American Legion.
A memorial service for Carol and Daniel Foster will be held at the Venedocia Salem Presbyterian Church on Nov. 24, 2012, at 10 a.m. Their cremated remains will be interred in Venedocia Cemetery following the memorial service. The Rev. Thomas A. Emery will officiate the services.
The family requests that memorials in their names be directed to the Salem Presbyterian Church improvement fund.
