Robert P. “Wheaties” Follas
Robert P. "Wheaties" Follas, 80, Van Wert, Ohio, died at 5:25 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.

He was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Marion Township, Delphos, Ohio, to the late Bessie (Bowman) Follas and Orwell Follas. His wife, Marlene A. (Stemen) Follas, survives in Van Wert. They were married Nov. 17, 1957, in Elida, Ohio.

Other survivors include his children, Amy (Jay) Prichard of Van Wert, Lori Traxler of Edgerton, Ohio, Lynn (Mike) Bouillon of Convoy and Jodi (Paul Brummette) Wallenhorst of Van Wert; his brothers, Dale Follas of Yuba City, Calif., Elbert (Grace) Follas of San Jose, Calif., William (Sue) Follas of Paulding, Ohio, and Donald Follas of Arlington, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Duane (Janice) Stemen of Columbus, Ohio; his sisters, Pat (John) Kirkendall and Connie (Gary) Plummer, both of Elida; several nieces and nephews; his grandchildren, Eric (Heather) Prichard and Alissa Prichard, Nick (Megan) Traxler, Josh, J.J. and Nate Traxler, Quintin, Hatti and Hannah Bouillon, Rachael McCroskey and Christian Wallenhorst, and a great-grandchild, Jarod Traxler.

He received certification in television service and technician from Chicago Trade Institute. He worked in Elida, Lima and Van Wert for over 30 years repairing televisions. He then went to work at Aeroquip and in 1993 retired. He attended First United Methodist Church, Van Wert. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1947 to 1949 and an avid bicycle rider. He rode in the first 12 Great Ohio Bike Adventures (G.O.B.A.), the Hilly Hundred in Bloomington, Ind., Hancock Horizontal Hundred in Findlay, the W.Y.C.O.H.I.B.T.O. in Wyandot County and the Tour of Scioto River Valley.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Military services will be performed by combined units of the Van Wert American Legion and VFW Posts

Calling hours are 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, April 17 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
