VAN WERT, Ohio - W. Gale High, 90, of Van Wert, Pleasant Township, died at 8:14 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Sarah Jane Living Center, Delphos.

He was born May 31, 1922, in Ohio City, to the late Ray H. High and Ethel Mae (Butler).

His wife, Julia Jane (Couts), died March 27, 1987. They were married Aug. 4, 1944.

Survivors include his sons: Thomas High of Seattle, Wash., and Timothy High of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter: Cheryl Ann High of Van Wert; 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a child: Gail Lynn Quillan, a brother: John Marlow High, and two sisters: Pauline Gibson and Laura Hertel.

He retired from the First National Bank of Chicago as vice-president and comptroller. He was a World War II veteran of Army Air Corps. He was a POW during the war and his story is held in the Veterans Project of the Library of Congress. He was a certified public accountant and earned his Masters in business administration from the University of Chicago.

Graveside service will be held at a later date at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery.

Preferred memorial is Alzheimer Association.
