    WAPAKONETA — Basketball coaches everywhere fear the slow start, and often can’t explain why it happens. Sometimes those starts cost you the game. That’s what happened to the Parkway girls in Wednesday’s Division III sectional semifinal as Bloomdale Elmwood advanced with a 55-44 win.

    BLUFFTON — Crestview girls basketball coach Greg Rickard and Ada senior Tori Wyss were named Coach and Player of the Year, respectively, in voting by the Northwest Conference coaches, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

    VAN WERT — The road to Columbus started on Wednesday for both the Fort Jennings Lady Musketeers and the Ottoville Lady Green at the Cougars Den in Van Wert High School for the Division IV girls basketball sectional. The Lady Green picked up the 51-29 victory to advance to Saturday’s sectional final.

    VAN WERT —Miller City dominated one area of its Division IV Van Wert sectional girls basketball opener on Tuesday night at the Cougars’ Den: rebounding, especially the offensive side. However, Jefferson dominated two facets of the game and those proved decisive as the Lady Jeffcats opened tournament play with a 46-29 victory.
