    VAN WERT — Ottoville’s volleyball team has played - and beaten - some outstanding teams during the course of a season that has included 19 wins and a sectional championship.

    VAN WERT — The Van Wert boys soccer season came to an end in unusual circumstances with a loss to Celina in last week’s sectional finals. The game began on Wednesday, but was suspended until Thursday due to lightning, then finished on a flooded field in constant rain on Thursday.

    NEW BREMEN — In Thursday night’s Division IV sectional final, the large crowd was treated to some fine volleyball by both teams. Despite a valiant effort by 8th-seeded Crestview, however, top-seeded New Bremen was too much in the end and won the match 25-16, 25-18, 25-19.

    MARIA STEIN — The Lincolnview Lancers went into “The Hanger” Thursday night and took on the 2016 MAC champions, the Marion Local Flyers, in the Division IV volleyball sectional finals. The energy in the gymnasium was electric and Lancer fans showed up in full force to support the girls, but the Flyers were able to flex their muscles and rolled through the Lancers in a straight set sweep by scores of 25-11, 25-14, and 25-18.

    CELINA — After lightning caused a suspension of Wednesday’s Division II sectional match in Celina on Wednesday, Van Wert’s boys soccer team went back down to Mercer County for the resumption on Thursday. Celina wound up with a 5-1 win.

    DELPHOS — The little things. Doing them right can be the difference in winning or losing in sports. The Ottoville Lady Green perfected the little things, rallying from an opening-set loss to defeat the Blue Jays in four sets for the sectional title before a near-capacity crowd at St. John’s High School on Thursday evening.

    Crestview junior Ashley Bowen ran away with last Saturday’s Northwest Conference Cross Country Meet in an impressive personal best and school record time of 18:55. Although there are plenty of races left in Bowen’s high school career — including, hopefully, three more this year — that performance was a big payoff for three years of incredible discipline.
