VAN WERT — The Van Wert boys varsity bowling team continued its hot recent run with a 3,019-2,729 win over Western Buckeye League foe Defiance on Tuesday evening at Olympic Lanes.

Leading the charge for the Cougars was a 268 game by Colton Deschner, part of his 449 2-game series. Cole Buckner averaged 203 in his two games, with a high of 210, and Nathan Bidlack rode a 248 game to a 419 series. Caleb Fetzer rolled a 373 series and Gabe Rollins added a 378.

Van Wert is now 6-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in league matches. Defiance falls to 1-6 in WBL play.

The Lady Cougars fell to 1-8 on the season and 0-4 in WBL action with their 2,576-2,108 loss to the Lady Bulldogs, also at Olympic Lanes. Bri Kesler was Van Wert’s most successful kegler with a 160-165 series, followed closely by Cloey Spry and her 160-162. Sarah Linser added a 157-145 series while Kaylee MacPhail rolled a single game score of 149.

Defiance, which improved to 5-2 in league matches, had four different girls turn in single-game scores of at least 188 and two girls top the 200-mark. Rachel Gerken rolled a strong 454 series for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Cougar boys are back in action on Saturday against Wapakoneta while the Lady Cougars are off until a match against Lima Temple Christian on Jan. 21.
