CELINA — The Crestview Lady Knights traveled to the Celina Fieldhouse to take on the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night. The Lady Knights picked up a 58-40 victory over Celina.

Crestview got off to a quick start, as the Lady Knights had a 15-2 lead early in the first quarter with 3-pointers from Paige Motycka and Lexi Gregory. Celina ended the first quarter with a 6-2 run to bring the score to 17-8 after one quarter.

The Lady Knights held Celina to just 6 points in the second period with four of those points coming from Lauren Jackson. Crestview, however, continued to score in bunches, as Ally McCoy opened the second quarter with a put-back bucket. Midway through the quarter, a jumper from Olivia Cunnigham and a trey from Bailey Gregory put the Lady Knights up 29-14. Crestview ended the first half with 3 points from Motycka to take a 32-14 lead into the intermission.

“I was really proud of us on the boards, and I was really proud of how we took care of the ball in the first half; we only had one turnover in the first half,” Crestview head coach Mark Gregory said. “I thought we were attacking the basket, and we were staying very balanced. Sometimes, when you are attacking the basket a lot, you can get careless and lose the ball, but we took care of the ball all half long.”

In the third quarter, the Lady Knights got another triple from Lyvia Black to put Crestview up 39-16. The Lady Bulldogs cut Crestview advantage to 41-21, getting two points from Carley Eichler and a 3-pointer from Jackson.

The Lady Knights ended the third period with a trey from Bailey Gregory, making it 47-23, Crestview.

Crestview got a 3-pointer from Alyssa Gent to start the final quarter, but Celina countered with two buckets from Jackson, to put the score at 50-27, Lady Knights. Later on in the fourth quarter, Celina got a 3-pointer from Emily Braun to bring the score to 54-30, Crestview.

After a Motycka layup, Celina went on a 10-0 run getting five points from Emma Lutz to cut the Lady Knights lead to 56-40. Crestview ended the contest with a layup from Raegan Hammons to give the Lady Knights a 58-40 victory.

“I was real pleased with the overall effort from everyone. There are a few things we need to work on, and we will take care of that tomorrow. We got a good Paulding team coming up on Thursday, so we will have a good day of preparation tomorrow and a tough conference battle on Thursday,” finished Coach Gregory.

Crestview improves to 14-6 on the season and Celina drops to 2-19 on the year. The Lady Knights travel to the Jungle on Thursday night to take on the Lady Panthers in Northwest Conference action.
