PAULDING – Crestview's girls basketball team continued a surge in the season's second half with a dominant performance in a 62-31 Northwest Conference win at Paulding on Thursday. The win moved the Lady Knights to 14-6 on the year and 5-2 in league play while the Panthers fall to 6-15 overall and 2-5 in league play.

The Lady Knights remain one game behind Northwest Conference leaders Spencerville and Columbus Grove; each are 6-1 in league games.

On Thursday, the Knights were paced by 15 points from senior guard Lyvia Black, who connected on 5 of 8 shots, including a pair of 3-point field goals. Sophomore guard Lexi Gregory was 5 of 10 for her 13 points, while senior Paige Motycka added 11.

Overall, the lady Knights weren't terribly efficient, shooting at a 37 percent (20 of 53) clip, but the Lady Knights held the Panthers to a mere 25 percent (10 of 40) from the floor and forced a dozen Paulding turnovers. Audrey Manz led Paulding with 14 points while Cassidy Posey added 11, but no other Panther scored more than 3 points in the game. Crestview's bench outscored their opposition 16-3.

The Lady Knights got off to a slow start, missing their first five shots of the game, and trailed 6-2 halfway through the opening period. A Lexi Gregory trey finally broke the ice for Crestview, and the rout was on from there. Gregory's bomb kickstarted an 11-2 run that spanned the quarter break. Olivia Cunningham's three made it 13-8 early in the second quarter. A bucket by Ally McCoy in the low block, plus a Gregory steal and layup pushed the lead to double figures, but Pauding fought back to within 5 before a last surge gave Crestview at 28-19 halftime edge.

The Knights continued to pull away after the break. A Lexi Gregory jumper was followed by a Gregory trey to open the half, and Black added a hoop before a Manz triple broke what had become a 12-0 Crestview run. Black answered with a trey, and the Knights led by 15 after three quarters.

In the finale, it was all Knights. Black connected for another trey to begin the fourth quarter and the lead only grew from there. By late in the game, both teams had gone deep into their benches.

Motycka led Crestview with 9 rebounds. Gregory paced the squad with 5 assists.
