CELINA — Crestview, Lincolnview and Fort Recovery took part in a 4-team softball quad at Celina’s Westview Park on Saturday, with the Lady Knights winning both games, 21-3 over Celina and 16-4 over Fort Recovery.

Against the host Bulldogs, the Lady Knights wasted no time putting up a five spot in each of the first three frames. Crestview got hits from Caitlin O’Hagan and Alexis Gregory, each resulting in two RBIs, to give the Lady Knights a 5-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Lady Bulldogs got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Brooke Steinbrunner reached on an error and later scored on a hit from Maddi Keuhne.

The Lady Knights’ bats continued to stay hot as Cora Millay tripled to open of the second. Avery McCoy stepped to the dish with two teammates on the base paths, and McCoy deposited the ball over the left field fence for a three-run bomb as part of a five-run second, making it 10-1, Knights.

In the top of the third, McCoy kept it going with a double to left field. That shot plated another Crestview run, and Hannah Binnion brought two more runners home with a hard smash through the Celina shortstop as the Lady Knights had a 15-1 advantage after three innings.

The Lady Knights pounded out six more runs in the fourth and fifth, including a double from Kristen Etzler to pick up an RBI and a two-run single from Sydney Bowen, and led 21-1.

Crestview went with Victoria Lichtensteiger for the front four innings but, with another game later on in the day, Lichtensteiger was lifted for Gregory to pitch the bottom of the fifth. Gregory ran into a bit of trouble in the circle, as two hit batters plus two errors allowed Celina to score two runs. Those runs weren’t enough as Crestview run-ruled the Lady Bulldogs 21-3.

The beat rolled on for the Lady Knights in game two versus Fort Recovery as Codi Miller tripled in the first inning, but Crestview was unable to push across a run. The Lady Knights scored a run in the bottom of the second, but exploded in the bottom of the third for 10 runs. Millay started that frame with a two-bagger to right field. Later on, Binnion, O’Hagan, Gregory and Aylssa Gent all picked up RBIs, and Miller and Etzler picked up extra-base hits in their second at bats of the frame to give the Lady Knights an early 11-0 lead.

The Lady Indians got a couple runs back in the top of the fourth as Emily Hart and Hannah Knapke reached on a hit and an error. Fort Recovery got RBIs from Aleigha Jenkins and Lydia Wenning, 11-2 Crestview.

The Lady Knights (4-6) continued to rake in the bottom of the fourth as Bowen singled and Miller doubled to plate two more runs. Etzler singled back up the middle to plate the final Crestview run of the game to make it 16-2.

Much like the first game, Lichtensteiger went the front four innings, but this time McCoy relieved in the fifth.

“I’m happy for Victoria Lichtensteiger she was able to get ahead in the count on close to 85 percent of the batters she faced today so that is huge because it allows her to throw her pitch instead of being behind and having to throw what the batter wants,” said Crestview coach Carl Etzler.

A two-out walk to Rachel Thien and a base hit by Hart gave McCoy some trouble to pitch through. Knapke, for the Lady Indians, doubled to score both runners, but McCoy retired the next batter with a short pop up.

“Two wins for us is outstanding; we have been battling trying to get our lineup where we want it. I think we figured it out after the Paulding game. We had 14 base hits that night and you are hopping it carries over, because I knew we had to come here and play Celina and Fort Recovery: two tough teams,” Etzler said. “For us to be able to get as many hits as we did and get the big hits when we need to was huge. We hit from top to bottom.”

The Lady Knights have a busy week coming up with games Monday through Friday, including conference matchups on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
