ARLINGTON - The Division II Girls District Golf Tournament was held at the Sycamore Springs Golf Club just outside of Arlington Monday, as 15 teams and 15 other individual golfers attempted to punch their ticket to the OHSAA State Tournament.
The Lincolnview Lady Lancers girls golf team made its way up Interstate 75 to take their chances at punching that state ticket. The top three teams and the top three individuals not on the qualifying teams will make that trip to Columbus and the Red Course at The Ohio State University.
The Lancers, coming off their second-place finish at the Sectional Tournament, established many school records on Monday as they recorded a team score of 382. The team score broke the previous team score of 402 set back in 03-04. Senior Kaitlyn Brant established a new school record for district play, as she recorded a round of 86. The previous record was held by Brianna Owens who shot an 88. Lancer senior Amanda Kocab finished with a score of 89 to finish third on the all time list at the district tournament.
Junior Macey Ashbaugh shot a consistent round of 93, as she scored a 46 and 47 in her round. Freshman Mikenna Klinger shot her best round of the season, as she tallied a 114.
The Lancers posted their best team finish as they held down the sixth position out of the 15 qualifying teams. Brant finished in ninth place overall with Kocab coming in 13 out of the 90 golfers. These were the best individual place finishers for the record books.
The three qualifying teams included the Lima Central Catholic T-Birds, as they came in second place to the superior effort set forth by Sandusky Perkins. Perkins' team score was 337, and cruised to the title over the T-Birds by 16 shots. The third qualifying team was Milan Edison with a team score of 369. Finishing in fourth place and only one shot out of qualifying for the State Tournament was the Lady Bulldogs of Defiance.
The three individuals that qualified were Sophomore standout from Woodmore High School, Mikayla Baer as she shot a 77. Junior Kelsey Koesters of Coldwater recorded an 80 on the day to punch her ticket to Columbus. Makayla Dull of Kansas Lakota High School finished in the third and final individual spot.
Overall match medalist honors went to Perkins' lead golfer, Maddy Mullins, as she recorded a district record score of one under par, 71. Runner up honors went to LCC's standout, Shelby Warner, as she fired a round of 74.
The Girls Division II State Tournament will be held on Oct. 12 and 13 at the OSU Grey Course.
