DELPHOS - Jefferson and Parkway split a baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field at Jefferson High School.

The visiting Panthers (1-2) put up 12 hits and added six walks in game one to secure a 14-4 five-inning win.

In the nightcap, the Wildcats (5-2) put together a 12-hit attack, including a two-run home run by Ross Thompson, and added four walks to split the twinbill, 11-7.

"We went 5-2 in the first week of the season. We have scored a lot of runs and generally got good pitching but it got stretched this week. Parkway hits well from one-through-nine," Jefferson coach Doug Geary said.

"We've got some holes to fill and we're trying to figure things out as far as where to put players. Jefferson's hitting is what our pitchers needed to see," Parkway coach Mike Schumm added. "We have to learn to change speeds and locations or we will have some long games. Offensively, we scored enough runs today. I think that will be a strength for us. Defensively, we made a few more mistakes in the second game but, again, we're still a work in progress."

In the opener, the Panthers went up 3-0 in the top of the first against hard-luck starter Jordan Herron. Parkway pieced together a leadoff single by Cain Pontsler, a walk to Jordan Stephenson, and an error on a grounder by Austin Adams to score Pontsler and put runners on the corners. A double-steal and another error on a Brandon Moorman fly ball scored Adams.

Jefferson got two back in the home half against Parkway starter Adams. A one-out walk to Zach Ricker, a single by Austin Jettinghoff, a wild pitch, a run-scoring hit by Zach Kimmett and a wild pitch accounted for the scoring.

Parkway scored seven in the top of the third to take a 10-2 lead. They combined six hits, including a double by Stephenson, four free passes and two more errors in sending 13 to the plate and chasing Herron for Jettinghoff. The big blow was a two-run single by Adams to make it 10-2.

The Wildcats made it 10-3 in the home half as Kimmett beat out an infield hit to short with one down. He later scored as Zavier Buzard singled to left.

Parkway added two more in the fourth to go up 12-3. Wyatt Felver had a run-scoring double and scored on a single by Pontsler.

It became 14-3 in the top of the fifth against third pitcher Tyler Rice, as Roth hit a two-run double to the fence in left, scoring Adams and Kameron Roehm.

Delphos made it 14-4 in the bottom half on back-to-back singles by Kortokrax and Herron, a force-out at second and a run-scoring knock to left by Rice. That chased Adams for Stephenson, who got the next two outs to end the contest.

In the second contest, Parkway got a 1-0 lead in the first against starter Ricker on an error, passed ball, wild pitch and a groundout by Adams to score Tanner Bates.

Delphos challenged in the second against starter Felver on two-out free passes to Herron and Buzard but couldn't score.

Delphos rally in the home half, getting three tallies. They pieced together an error, three hits, including run-scoring singles by Kimmett and Kortokrax and a run-scoring groundout by Jettinghoff to go up 3-1.

The Panthers went up 4-3 in the fifth against reliever Kimmett. A wild pitch on a strikeout and stolen base put Bates on second, An out later, Moorman knocked him in with a single and stole second. Stephenson walked and after a passed ball, Roehm hit a one-bounce double to the fence in left to plate both and bring Rice to the mound. He got the final two outs.

The Jeffcats scored eight times in the fifth frame against relief pitcher Roehm to open up an 11-4 edge. They gathered three errors, a walk and seven hits, including Thompson's two-run round-tripper to left that chased Roehm for Pontsler, Kimmett's run-scoring triple to right and Kortokrax's RBI double to left that plated the final run of the frame.

Kortokrax, Herron, Tyler Wrasman and Seth Wollenhaupt added RBI hits. Parkway made it 11-7 in the sixth, putting together two hits, a walk and a pair of errors to score three runs. One came in on an error, the second on a bases-loaded walk to Stephenson and the third on a groundout by Roehm against Thompson, the fourth Jefferson hurler.

Parkway visits Van Wert at 5 p.m. Monday, while Jefferson hosts Miller City at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
