COLUMBUS GROVE - The Wayne Trace Wrestling team traveled to Columbus Grove Wednesday evening for the opening rounds of the OHSAA Team Wrestling Tournament.

The second-seeded Raiders got a bye in the opening round of the Division III, Region 17-A bracket; and faced Montpeiler, who defeated Tinora in the opening round. Wayne Trace downed the Locomotives 55-21 to move on.

Wayne Trace won 10 of the 14 individual matches on in the contest.

Freshman George Clemens pinned Seth Ries in 44 seconds in the 106-pound weight class for Wayne Trace. Junior Dutin Taylor won via forfeit in the 113-pound weight class.

The Raiders also took the 120-pound weight class with sophomore Matthew Baxter picking up a 15-3 major decision against Cole Ries.

After falling to the Locos in the 126-pound class, junior Aaron Miller (pin 3:42) picked up a win for Wayne Trace in the 132-pound class, and sophomore Tyler Showalter (pin :50) won the 138-pound weight class bout.

Montpeiler won the 145-pound bout, but the Raiders countered in the 152-pound class when sophomore Josh Reel pinned Tyler McDaniel in 1:44. Senior Sawyer Temple then pinned Montpeiler's Hunter McKelvey in 5:58 in the 160-pound class.

The Locos took the 170 and 180-pound classes, but Wayne Trace finished with a trio of wins.

Sophomore Justin Pierce won the 195-pound class with an 11-6 decision over Zech Thompson. Sophomore Riley Moore then won the 220-pound class by way of forfeit. Finally, sophomore Charles Chastain pinned Montpeiler's Kalob Keller in :51 seconds.

The Raiders will return to action on Wednesday, January 30, when they take on third-seeded Ayersville at a site that is to be announced.
