Indians sweep Van Wert

LIMA — Lima Shawnee swept all five matches from defending Western Buckeye League champion Van Wert on Tuesday, doing so without dropping a set.

At second singles, Shawnee’s Isaac Hanover needed a second-set tiebreaker to upend Van Wert senior Gabe Rollins 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) while Ryan Keber dropped his match at third singles to Jackson Schaaf 6-3, 7-5.

Lady Raiders rally to win

HAVILAND — Wayne Trace scored four runs in the home half of the fifth to come from behind and grab a 5-4 win over Holgate on Tuesday.

Maggie Crosby again tossed a complete game for the Lady Raiders, using 124 pitches to get through seven innings. Along the way, she struck out eight while yielding five hits and four runs (three earned). Bailey Plott was saddled with the loss for the Tigers.

Panthers sweep track tri

ROCKFORD — Parkway’s girls and boys both won a home tri meet against Lincolnview and Ada on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers (64.50) edged the Bulldogs (61) with Lincolnview (46.50) third, while the Panther boys had a little more breathing room, beating Lincolnview and Ada 76-61-38.

The Lancers had great success in relays and also in distance races, with Karter Tow and Rylee Byrne sweeping their respective 1600 and 3200 meter runs, but Parkway’s Caden May also won two events, as did Sydney Crouch.

Cougars take WBL quad

KENTON — Van Wert’s boys track team bested a four-team WBL meet at kenton on Tuesday while the Lady Cougars finished runners-up to Wapakoneta.

Austin Clay won both the boys shot and discus events for Van Wert while Eli Rager won the long jump and Blake Henry claimed the high jump.Van Wert’s boys also won the 4x800 meter relay, the 4x400, the 300 meter hurdles (Brandon Hernandez) and the 400 meter dash (Thane Cowan).

The Lady Cougars swept the top three paces in the shot put, with Tabatha Saam winning the event. Van Wert won the 4x200 relay, the 4x100 relay, the 400 meter dash (Cassidy Meyers), the 200 (Megan Braun) and the 100 (Megan Braun).

Lady Cougars fall

LIMA — Shawnee used a 9-run third inning to break open what had been a tie game and rolled to an 18-8 Western Buckeye League win over Van Wert on Tuesday.

The Lady Cougars led 3-0 before Shawnee fought back to tie the game, then burst ahead with the big third inning.

Katie Coplin collected three hits for Van Wert while Olivia Kline added two.

Lady Panthers win again

ROCKFORD — Parkway knocked Coldwater from the ranks of MAC unbeatens with a 9-0 victory over the Cavs on Tuesday.

Haley Hawk scattered eight hits to get the win and the Lady Panther defense threw out four runners on the basepaths to preserve the shutout. Bailey Bates, Alyx Slusher and Bailey Strickler each had two RBIs.
