MILLER CITY — Jefferson’s girls basketball team got off to a hot start at Miller City High School’s J. Harry Leopold Gymnasium Tuesday night.

The Lady Jeffcats couldn’t keep up that pace, though, and the host Wildcats rallied with a 28-17 span in the second and third periods.

They ended up with a 61-56 non-league victory.

Jefferson (5-7) got off quickly, taking a 23-17 lead after eight minutes of action.

The host Lady Wildcats overcame that 6-point deficit with a 14-7 second period to assume a 31-30 halftime edge.

With a 14-10 third period, that lead grew to 45-40 after three quarters and the teams tied at 16-16 in the fourth.

Jefferson placed a trio in double-digit scoring: 19 by Sarah Miller, 13 by Alli McClurg and 12 by Macy Wallace.

Miller City was led by 16 from Christina Berger, 15 by Tiffany Welty, 11 from Allison Ruhe and 10 by Kylie Berner.

Both teams hit 12 free throws but the Jeffcats got theirs in 26 tries and Miller City in 19.
