Autumn and winter migration season is here for the birds. Millions of birds are covering thousands of miles to warmer climates. The snowbirds grab their favorite destination to see the warmth in Florida, Hawaii, etc. Everyone wants to be warm and enjoy the spectacles on earth. There is so much diversity in nature for our feather friends and ourselves.

Greed or God what will you be having for Christmas? Christmas used to be a time for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ the Son of God, a time when families would gather together and go to church to worship and pray together. Some of us still practice this gathering of family and friends and enjoy the religious moments together.

We've Come a Long Way, Baby. Isn't this a song title? We can say the same of the USA after over 200 years in the making.

We would like to give a big thumbs up to the registered voters who turned out to vote in Tuesday's election. This is one right that many people have fought and died for and you took advantage of this right.

I drive around Van Wert and see all the signs in people's yards. The city never takes care of anything, pool, schools, etc.

Next Tuesday, Nov. 5, citizens of Van Wert have an opportunity to decide on the construction of a family aquatic center. It is our opinion that a facility such as this would enhance the quality of life for our community. We remember going to the Van Wert County swimming pool as a family when our daughters were small and thoroughly enjoying our time there with them and our friends.

  • Friday, November 1, 2013 6:01 PM
I have a few comments to make on the proposed aquatics center. Questions first: Why would you even consider building the aquatic center on land that is not even owned by the city? Why did you not buy your "Vote Yes" signs in Van Wert and support a local business, and not buy them in Alabama as you did? How could the mayor and Van Wert's chosen few, who pushed this issue, not have any respect for the 53 percent of families in the Van Wert School system that are currently living under the federal poverty level?
