VAN WERT –  A search warrant was executed at 327 N. Wayne St. in Van Wert, at 1:53 a.m. Saturday morning. Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach stated the search warrant was the result of an investigation by deputies, into possible drug activity at the residence. Sheriff Riggenbach advised that seven people were found at the residence when the search warrant was executed. Five of the individuals were identified and released from the scene.

Sheriff Riggenbach said Charles Jenkins, age 42, of Van Wert, and Kendra Keesler, age 24 of Van Wert, were arrested for aggravated drug possession, each a Felony of the 5th degree. Both subjects were transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility where they are being held pending an arraignment in Van Wert Municipal Court. Sheriff Riggenbach also said the incident remains under investigation additional criminal charges may be.

Items taken during the search for evidentiary purposes:

- A moderate amount of suspected methamphetamine

- Bindles containing unknown powder

- Loaded handgun and ammunition

- A moderate amount of drug paraphernalia including baggies and scales

- A large amount of syringes

- Several cell phones and other digital devices

- Cash

Sheriff Riggenbach advised that a nuisance abatement letter will be sent to the property owner to make him/her aware of what occurred on this property. The purpose of the nuisance abatement letter is to make the property owner aware of alleged illegal activity occurring within the owner’s property. The nuisance abatement letter directs property owners to take action in the hopes of abating any future illegal activity. Sheriff Riggenbach said the law does allow for the seizure of property if the property owner knowingly permits illegal activity to continue within their property.
