VAN WERT – Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach released that his Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on U.S. Route 30 at John Brown Road. At 10:04 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 11, the Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call about a Semi-Tractor and car crash on U.S. Route 30 at John Brown Road in the westbound lanes.

A 2018 Volvo CB, driven by Homer E. Bolin, age 67 of Georgetown, Kentucky, and a 2011 Dodge Avenger, driven by Kathi R. Williams, age 58 of Van Wert, Ohio, were involved in the crash.

Based on evidence at the scene, the crash appeared to have happened when the vehicle being driven southbound on John Brown Road by Kathi R. Williams failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck on the driver side by the vehicle being driven westbound on U.S. 30 by Homer E. Bolin. The Dodge Avenger came to rest on the north side of U.S. 30. The Volvo CB came to rest in the median between the eastbound and westbound lanes. Both the Dodge Avenger and the Volvo CB sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

The driver of the Dodge Avenger, Kathi R. Williams, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Mrs. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by the Van Wert County Coroner’s Office and was transported to Van Wert Health. The driver of the Volvo CB was not injured.

Sheriff Riggenbach said the crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Van Wert Fire and EMS, Van Wert ODOT, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Van Wert Police Department.
