DELPHOS — Anthony J. Denoyer, 18, of Delphos is currently in Allen County Jail on for felonious assault, a second-degree felony, following the hospitalization of his 2-month-old child.

Injuries were discovered on the child on Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Health St. Rita's. The child is in Columbus Children's Hospital in critical care.

The Delphos Police Department was contacted Tuesday by St.Rita’s Medical Center requesting detectives respond to the emergency room for an injured child.

When detectives arrived, they learned a 2-month-old child had been life-flighted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives spoke with the child’s mother and grandparents at the hospital and learned the child’s injuries most likely happened while in the custody of the biological father, who was in custody at the Allen County Jail on unrelated charge.

The detectives and representatives from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office interviewed the father and he did admit to causing the injuries to the child at his residence. A search warrant was served on the residence Wednesday morning.

This is a joint investigation involving Allen County Children's Services, the Delphos Police Department and the Allen County Sheriff's Department. Investigators have discussed the case with the Allen County Prosecutor's Office, which authorized the felonious assault charge.

The Allen County Grand Jury will hear the details of the case once it is completed.
