VAN WERT – The following cases were seen in the Court of Common Pleas by Judge Martin Burchfield:

MONDAY, JULY 22, 2019

SENTENCINGS

James Yates, 34, Van Wert, was sentenced for sexual battery, F2, sexual battery, F3, two counts of gross sexual imposition, F3, gross sexual imposition, F4, and unlawful sexual conduct with minor, F3. He was sentenced to a total of 12.5 years prison, given credit for 120 days served, and classified as a Tier 3 sex offender (register every 90 days for life). Defendant will be deported to his home country of Great Britain upon completion of the prison sentence. He was also ordered to pay court costs.

Casey Jewett, 33, Van Wert, was sentenced for obstructing justice, M1. He was sentenced to 60 days jail beginning July 28 at 7 p.m., with work release, may serve balance on EMHA beginning Aug. 12. The Court also ordered costs to be paid.

Eric Shaffer, 43, Van Wert, was sentenced for forgery, F5. He was sentenced to 30 days jail with work release, ordered to pay costs, partial appointed counsel fees, and restitution to the victim for $200.

BOND VIOLATIONS

Connor Townsend-Elliot, 20, Middle Point, admitted to violating his bond and his treatment in lieu program by failing to appear for drug testing, failing to complete counseling, and positive drug test. Sentencing was set for Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. He was released on a surety bond with a requirement to report to probation every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Charles Miller, 63, Van Wert, admitted to violating his bond by having a positive drug test, and then changed his plea to guilty to one count of theft from a person in a protected class, F5. The Court set his new bond at $5,000 cash or commercial surety, ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.

Troy Terhark, 55, Lima, admitted to violating his bond by having a positive drug test. The Court set his new bond at $5,000 cash or commercial surety, reminded defendant of his final pretrial on July 31 and his trial date of Aug. 19.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 24, 2019

ARRAIGNMENTS

Jerry Spurr, 51, Van Wert, entered a not guilty plea to aggravated possession of drugs (meth), F5. The Court set bond at surety bond with pretrial set for Aug. 14 at 8 a.m.

CHANGES OF PLEAS

James Dunno, 34, Paulding, changed his plea to guilty to grand theft (firearm). The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.

Keri Koesters, 32, Van Wert, changed her plea to guilty to two counts of trafficking heroin, F5. She then requested and was granted treatment in lieu of conviction and her case was stayed pending completion of the treatment program. She was ordered to pay costs and partial appointed attorney fees.

Zachariah Minyoung, 18, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to trespass in a habitation, F4. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.

Kollin Taylor, 19, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to trespass in a habitation, F4. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.

Jenifer Lynnsey Jane Davis, 23, Van Wert, changed her plea to guilty to unauthorized use of a vehicle, M1. The Court set sentencing for Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.

VIOLATIONS

Daniel Huber, 39, Van Wert, denied violating his bond and his treatment in lieu program by testing positive for drugs. A hearing was set for Aug. 5 at 8:30 a.m.

Jeffery Craft, 35, Van Wert, admitted to violating his probation by failing to complete the WORTH Center program. He was sentenced to 180 days jail on each of his two counts, consecutive, with credit for 138 days served.
