VAN WERT – Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach released information on a crash that occurred at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Payne Road on Wednesday.

Deputies investigated the multiple vehicle crash on Wednesday, Jan. 16 around 9:41 a.m.

The crash occurred when a 2014 Volvo Semi-truck and trailer traveling eastbound on U.S. 30, being driven by Stanley E. Woods, age 60 of Decatur, Georgia, turned North to travel on Payne Road. Woods failed to yield the right of way to a 2016 White Semi-truck and trailer that was traveling westbound on U.S. 30, being driven by Raymond C. Squires, age 62, of Alliance, Ohio.

The semi-truck and trailer being driven by Squires struck the Volvo semi-truck and trailer being driven by Woods in the passenger rear side of the trailer. The Volvo semi-trailer was pushed into a 2018 Freight vehicle, being driven by Andrew Leimer, age 30 of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Freight vehicle was facing South on Payne Road at a stop sign. The vehicle driven by Squires and Leimer were towed from the scene.

The crash caused a portion of westbound U.S. 30 to be closed for almost three hours.

Squires was transported to Van Wert County Health by Van Wert EMS with suspected minor injuries. Leimer was transported to Van Wert Health by Convoy EMS with possible injuries. Woods did not appear to be injured.

Woods was issued a citation for fail to yield the right of way. He is scheduled to appear in Van Wert Municipal Court for arraignment on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
