VAN WERT – The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office responded to two ATV accidents on Tuesday.

At around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, dispatch received a call about an ATV accident involving an 8-year-old female and a 3-year-old female on Jonestown Road in Venedocia. According to the report, the ATV hit a tree. Ohio City EMS responded to the accident and transported the 3-year-old to Van Wert Health.

The 8-year-old did not sustain injuries; the 3-year-old received an injury to the middle of her chest and was treated and released from Van Wert Health, according to a report at the Sheriff’s Office.

Around the same time, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office also responded to an ATV accident on Augustine Road in Pleasant Township involving a 10-year-old male. According to the report, the ATV had rolled over and Van Wert, Ohio City, and Wren emergency personnel responded. Air transport was requested but none were able to land due to the weather.

Van Wert EMS transported the male to Parkview North in Fort Wayne. After a follow-up the next day, the deputy on-scene reported that the male was responsive and did not have broken bones or organ damage.

As reported by Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, there was a third ATV accident in the area in Celina. According to Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Gray, an ATV struck a 73-year-old woman as a 2 and a half year old was attempting to exit the ATV but accidentally hit the accelerator.

The woman was transported to Mercer Health by the Celina branch of the Mercer County EMS and later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital.

Gray’s Office noted that once that investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
