VAN WERT – Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach announced a search warrant was executed at 610 S. Washington St. in Van Wert Tuesday night. Sheriff Riggenbach stated the search warrant was the result of an investigation by deputies, into possible drug activity at the residence. Sheriff Riggenbach advised that four people were found inside the residence when the search warrant was executed. The individuals were identified and released from the scene.

Items taken during the search of the residence for evidentiary purposes:

- Moderate amount of suspected methamphetamine

- Moderate amount of suspected heroin

- Large amount of syringes

- Several Cell phones and other digital devices

- Cash

Sheriff Riggenbach said the investigation is continuing and criminal charges may be filed at a later date.

Sheriff Riggenbach advised that a nuisance abatement letter will be sent to the property owner to make him/her aware of what occurred on this property. The purpose of the nuisance abatement letter is to make the property owner aware of alleged illegal activity occurring within the owner’s property. Sheriff Riggenbach stated the nuisance abatement letter directs property owners to take action in the hopes of abating any future illegal activity. Sheriff Riggenbach said the law does allow for the seizure of property, if the property owner knowingly permits illegal activity to continue within their property.
