VAN WERT – The following cases were seen by Judge Martin Burchfield in the Van Wert Court of Common Pleas:

THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 2019

TIME WAIVER

Ashley Carr, 19, Van Wert, signed a time waiver in open court and requested additional time to prepare her case. Pre-trial was set for July 24 at 8 a.m.

Jason Allen, 45, Middle Point, signed a time waiver in open court and requested additional time to prepare his case. Pre-trial was set for Aug. 8 at 10:30 a.m.

SENTENCING

Trent Lacy, 50, Van Wert, OVI, F4. He was sentenced to three years community control, 60 days jail beginning June 28 at 9 a.m., 90 additional days jail or EMHA beginning Aug. 26. He was granted work release and alcohol assessment and treatment. His driver’s license was suspended five years; he was fined $2,000, and ordered to pay monthly probation fee and costs.

Jake Byler, 56, Decatur, Indiana, OVI, M1. Sentenced to one year community control, 20 days jail beginning July 6, and after 10 days he may elect to go on EMHA for 36 days. Also sentenced to alcohol/substance abuse assessment and treatment, his driver’s licenses was suspended two years from June 27, no jail credit, fined $525, and ordered to pay costs and monthly probation fee.

FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 2019

CHANGE OF PLEA

Eric Shaffer, 43, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to forgery, F5. Two other similar charges were dismissed for his plea. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for July 24 at 9 a.m.

The following case was seen by Magistrate Joseph Quatman in the Van Wert Court of Common Pleas:

ARRAIGNMENT

James Dunno, 34, Paulding, entered a plea of not guilty to grand theft of a firearm, F3. Bond was set at surety bond and PT set for July 24 at 8 a.m.
