VAN WERT – The following cases were seen in the Van Wert Court of Common Pleas by Judge Martin Burchfield:

FRIDAY, JANUARY 10, 2020

SENTENCING

Thomas Rupert, 65, Van Wert, was sentenced following his conviction at an earlier jury trial for two counts of gross sexual imposition, F3. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison on each charge, to run consecutively. He was classified as a Tier 2 sex offender (register every 180 days for 25 years).

Stephen Davies, 39, Van Wert, was sentenced for possession cocaine, F5, and assault, M1. He was sentenced to 90 days jail each charge, to run concurrent, with credit for six days served. He was ordered to pay costs and partial appointed counsel fees.

BOND VIOLATION

Brendan Bergman, 24, Van Wert, admitted to violating his bond by failing to report to probation. His bond was set at $10,000 cash or commercial surety and the matter was scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 15 at 9 a.m.

CHANGE OF PLEA

Mitchell Grote, 24, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to receiving stolen property, M1, (as amended) and carrying a concealed weapon, M1, and a specification for forfeiture of the 9mm handgun and three magazines. Sentencing was set for Feb. 19 at 9 a.m.

John Curts, 40, Willshire, changed his plea to guilty to ID fraud, F5. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Feb. 19 at 9 a.m.

David Youngpeter, 38, Delphos, changed his plea to guilty to aggravated arson, F2 and felonious assault, F2. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for March 6 at 10:30 a.m.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 14, 2020

JURY TRIAL

Alexander Chorvas, 24, Van Wert, was found not guilty of aggravated trafficking in drugs, F2, following a two-day jury trial Monday and Tuesday.

ARRAIGNMENT/BOND VIOLATION

Nathan Dunn, 37, Van Wert, appeared for arraignment on new charges of two counts of receiving stolen property, F5, two counts of forgery, F5, and bond violations on his earlier two pending cases due to his failure to report to probation. He admitted the bond violation and entered a not guilty plea on the new charge. The Court set his bond at $10,000 cash or commercial surety and set pretrial for all three cases on Feb. 5 at 8 a.m.

ARRAIGNMENTS

Felicia Dunn, 31, Battle Creek, Michigan, entered a not guilty plea to aggravated possession of drugs, F5. She was released on a surety bond with PT set for Feb. 5 at 8 a.m.

Ronald Harsh, Sr. 48, Paulding, entered a not guilty plea to theft of drugs, F4. He was released on a surety bond with pretrial set for Feb. 5 at 8 a.m.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 2020

ARRAIGNMENTS (All pled not guilty)

Brandon Adkins, 24, New Bavaria, Ohio, was arraigned for failure to provide notice of change of address as a registered offender, F4. He was given a surety bond and pretrial was set for Feb. 5 at 8 a.m.

Judy Boyd, 43, Van Wert, was arraigned for aggravated trafficking of drugs, F4, and aggravated possession of drugs, F5. She was given a surety bond and pretrial was set for Feb. 5 at 8 a.m.

Chad Diltz, 43, Van Wert, was arraigned for possession heroin, F5. He was given a surety bond with pretrial set for Jan. 29 at 8 a.m.

Randall Dull, 58, Wren, was arraigned for possession cocaine, F5. He was given a surety bond with pretrial set for Jan. 29 at 8 a.m.

Chad Fowler, 34, Van Wert, was arraigned for importuning, F4. His bond was set at $25,000 cash or commercial surety with an order to have no contact with the victim. A pretrial is set for Feb. 5 at 8 a.m.

Samantha Lacy, 27, Van Wert, was arraigned for aggravated possession of drugs, F5. She was given a surety bond with pretrial set for Feb. 5 at 8 a.m.

Theresa Parks, 40, Van Wert, was arraigned for aggravated possession drugs, F5. She was given a surety bond with pretrial set for Feb. 12 at 8 a.m.

Heather Pirani, 33, Paulding, was arraigned for complicity in a theft, F4. She was given a surety bond with pretrial set for Feb. 12 at 8 a.m.

Jordan Vickery, 36, Middle Point, was arraigned for failure to provide notice of change of address as registered offender, F3. His bond was set at $10,000 cash or commercial surety, with a pretrial set for Jan. 22.

CHANGE OF PLEAS

Justin Reiley, 37, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, F5. Other charges were dismissed for his plea. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Feb. 19 at 9 a.m. His bond was modified to surety.

SENTENCINGS

Jeremy Dunbar, 23, Van Wert, was sentenced for aggravated possession of drugs, F5. He was sentenced to three years community control, up to six months at WORTH Center, 30 days jail at a later date, substance abuse and mental health assessment and treatment, two years intensive probation, and ordered to pay costs, partial appointed counsel fees, plus monthly probation fee.

Brendan Bergman, 24, Van Wert, was sentenced for aggravated possession of drugs, F3. He was sentenced to three years community control, up to six months at WORTH Center, 200 hours community service, 30 days jail at a later date, substance abuse and mental health assessment and treatment, two years intensive probation, and ordered to pay costs, partial appointed counsel fees, plus monthly probation fee.

JUDICIAL RELEASE HEARING

Chelsea Bok, 28, Van Wert, was granted Judicial Release from prison and she was placed on three years community control under the following conditions: 30 days jail at later date, no illegal drugs, no alcohol, no prescription drugs without prescription, random testing, substance abuse assessment and treatment, complete all programs, to be held in jail until evaluated for treatment, authorities have permission to search, and she was ordered to pay costs, partial appointed counsel fees, and monthly probation fee.
