VAN WERT — The following individuals appeared before Judge Martin Burchfield in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court:

Friday, Jan. 17

Bond violation

Nathaniel Thomas, 41, Van Wert, admitted to violating his bond by not reporting to probation since Dec. 19. His bond was set at $5,000 cash or commercial surety and a pretrial was already scheduled for Monday.

Wednesday, Jan. 22


Scott Eckelbarger, 53, Fort Wayne, entered a not guilty plea to OVI, a felony 4. He was released on a surety bond and pretrial set for Feb. 19. May not drive in Ohio.

Changes of plea

Abbey Eutsler, 33, Venedocia, was found, by Court Diagnostic Services in Toledo, to be competent to stand trial and that there was no basis for a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Defendant then changed her plea to guilty to two counts of domestic violence, each a felony 4. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for March 4.


Charles Jenkins, 42, Van Wert, aggravated trafficking drugs, a felony 3; and possession of heroin, a felony 5. Sentenced to: trafficking — 18 months prison with credit for 16 days served; possession — 12 months prison with credit for 16 days served, concurrent, costs. $240 and firearm used in the crimes forfeited to Van Wert County Sheriff's Office.

Candelario Jimmie Benavidez, 67, Van Wert, illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, a felony 5. Sentenced to: three years community control, two years intensive probation, 90 days jail, additional 30 days jail at later date, no illegal drugs or alcohol with random testing, substance abuse and mental health assessment and treatment, no contact with victim, classified as Tier 1 sex offender (annually for 15 years) and was ordered to pay costs and monthly probation fee. Report to jail on Feb. 10.

Bond violations

Philip Vickery, 29, Decatur, Indiana, admitted violating his bond by failing to appear since Sept 18. Bond set at $50,000 cash or commercial surety. Sentencing set for Jan. 28.
