VAN WERT – The following cases were seen in the Van Wert Court of Common Pleas by Judge Martin Burchfield:

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2019

ARRAIGNMENT

Anita Dunlap, 42, Toledo, entered a not guilty plea to a 14 count indictment, including seven counts of theft, F5 and seven counts of forgery, F5. She was released on a surety bond with pretrial set for Dec. 11 at 8 a.m. 

BOND VIOLATION

Jeremy Nielsen, 40, Ohio City, admitted to violating his bond by failing a drug screen. The new bond was set at $10,000 cash or commercial surety. Sentencing on the underlying charge is already set for Dec. 11.

CHANGE OF PLEA

Curtis Coleman, 48, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, F3. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Jan. 8 at 9 a.m. 

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2019

BOND VIOLATION

Korbin Taylor, 21, Van Wert, admitted to violating his bond by having drugs in his possession for court. Bond set at $25,000 cash or commercial surety, with pretrial set for Dec. 11 at 8 a.m.

INITIAL APPEARANCE

Danny Felger, Jr. 56, Ohio City, appeared for an initial appearance on a charge of retaliation, F3. A preliminary hearing set for Nov. 19 at 11 a.m.  Bond set at $250,000 cash or commercial surety. He is to have no contact with Judge Jill Straley or Municipal Court unless at a scheduled court hearing. He then appeared on Nov. 19 before visiting Judge David Cheney, and in open court, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and agreed to be bound over to the Grand Jury. Bond remained the same.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2019

ARRAIGNMENT

Trei Patrick Leavaughn Geiser, 23, Huntertown, Indiana, entered a not guilty plea to theft, F5. Bond set at $10,000 cash or commercial surety and pretrial was set for Dec. 18 at 8 a.m. He also signed a time waiver in open court and requested additional time to prepare his case.

VIOLATIONS

Marah Davis, 29, Decatur, Indiana, admitted violating her bond by failing to appear for a court hearing. She was released on a surety bond with pretrial set for Jan. 10 at 9 a.m.

Johnathan Wells, 39, Sidney, had a new bond set at $5,000 cash or commercial surety. He also signed a time waiver in open court and requested additional time to prepare his case.

SENTENCINGS

Caleb Phillips, 19, Van Wert, was sentenced for aggravated possession of cocaine, F4, trafficking marijuana, F5, Possession of marijuana, F5, and aggravated possession of drugs, F5. He was sentenced to three years community control, up to six months WORTH Center, substance abuse and mental health assessments and treatment, 30 days jail at a later date, ordered to seek employment after WORTH, substance abuse and mental health assessments and treatment, three years intensive probation and had $1155.92 forfeited to Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office. He was also ordered to pay monthly probation fees, partial appointed counsel fees, and costs.

Michael Reichert, 36, Van Wert, was sentenced to aggravated trafficking drugs, F2. He was sentenced to six to nine years of prison (6 years mandatory), with credit for 149 days served, and ordered costs.

Johnathan Murphy, 34, Van Wert, was sentenced for inducing panic, M1. He was sentenced to two years community control, 30 days jail at later date, 50 hours community service, substance abuse and mental health assessments and treatment. He must be medically compliant. He also was ordered to one-year intensive probation, and ordered to pay monthly probation fees, partial appointed counsel fees, and costs.
