    VAN WERT – Elite runners and high school runners, and runners of all ages with experience levels from all around the Midwest converged on the streets of Van Wert on Saturday night. The fastest woman in the field, however, just had to trot out her home door in downtown Van Wert to get to the starting line before she picked up the win in a time of 21 minutes 40 seconds at the Van Wert 4 Mile on a hot night at the Town Creek Live Festival, where the race time temperature was a blistering 87 degrees.

  • Elks donate to Convoy Fire and EMS

    CONVOY — Van Wert Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, recently donated a fire hose inflation system to the Convoy Fire and EMS. The system is used to inflate a section of fire hose so it can be pulled across a stream or pond to assist in the rescue of someone in the water.

    ANAHEIM, Calif. – Two Van Wert High School/Vantage Career Center students, Lyrissa Hammons and Allie Etter, brought home a gold medal after competing at the national FCCLA conference in Anaheim. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)’s National Leadership Conference (NLC) was held June 30-July 4 in Anaheim, California. More than 8,700 participants from across the country gathered together to attend leadership and program trainings, hear national speakers, meet youth leaders from across the nation, participate in competitive events, and explore colleges and careers.

This year’s Van Wert 4 Mile, presented by Van Wert Health, features local runners from Van Wert, Lincolnview, and Crestview high schools and middle schools as well as at least 5 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon Qualifiers, NCAA All Americans, Big Ten Champions, a United Kingdom National Champion, and your neighbor down the street.
