    Sixty years ago, a group of local theatre enthusiasts organized and produced the first play under the name Van Wert Civic Theatre. Little did they know the impact their efforts would have on the future of live theatre in Van Wert.

    VAN WERT — Allen Shinnaberry and Mike Semer, both from Van Wert, met 18 years ago putting on gospel music concerts locally at places like Fountain Park, the Apple Festival, and Old Fashioned Farmers Days. Allen was the sound tech. Over the years the two became close friends, “like brothers.”
  • Crestview Student Needs Fund established thanks to donation

    CONVOY — The Convoy Community Foundation has received a $50,000 anonymous donation from a Crestview School District Alumi. The $50,000 donation will establish the Crestview Student Needs Fund. Income from the fund will be administered by Crestview’s social worker assisted by its guidance counselors and the CCF for the benefit of Crestview students from grades K through 12.

    I and many of you, I am sure, are still on a musical and inspirational high after this past weekend’s performances at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center. It started with The Texas Tenors on Saturday. Their evening concert was another moving experience; maybe more than any other they have brought to us. The title of the concert was “Let Freedom Sing!” And boy did it ever!

  • Trump praises tank plant workers, military on visit to Lima

    LIMA — President Donald Trump landed in Lima Wednesday afternoon where he was greeted by a crowd at the Lima Allen County Airport. Trump then was escorted by motorcade to the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center to take a tour of the facility where the M1 Abrams tank is built.
  • Suspected drug overdose reported inside the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility

    CELINA – Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey released a few details about a suspected drug overdose inside the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility. At approximately 3:29 p.m. Wednesday, inmates alerted corrections staff of a male inmate who was not responding and not breathing. Corrections officers immediately responded to the dorm where an inmate had started CPR. The on duty corrections nurse responded and rendered aid while Central Dispatch alerted the Celina EMS personnel.
