    VAN WERT — Coming into the season, Van Wert head coach Charlie Witten knew that pitching was going to be the driving force behind the Cougars season. Three games into the spring, and he was right.

    Van Wert beat Spencerville 7-1 Monday evening to continue their red hot start to the season. Lawson Blackmore and Parker Conrad threw a combined no-hitter, as the Cougs enhance their record to 3-0.

    CONVOY — The Crestview Local Schools Board of Education met Monday, March 25 in the Board office. The meeting opened with Board President John Auld expressing thanks to Coach Jeremy Best and the varsity basketball team for the “great way in which they represented the Crestview School District” during their successful Division Four title run. High School Principal Dave Bowen congratulated Best and the team saying, “The expectations were there all year long. But having those expectations and being able to deliver on them is very, very challenging and very, very difficult to do.” Superintendent Kathy Mollenkopf announced that the team would be invited to the April Board meeting.

    VAN WERT — Pick up spring gifts and Easter basket stuffers while supporting the Van Wert County 4-H Camp Counselors going to 4-H camp on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the 4-H Craft & Vendor show at the Jr. Fair Building on the fairgrounds. Food will be available for purchase to support the Jr. Fair Board and its renovation projects. There is even a rumored visit from the Easter bunny.

The Knights, aided by a Derick Dealey in the first half and fueled by Javin Etzler in the second half, took down Richmond Heights 59-49 in the State Semi-finals on Friday.

    VAN WERT — Allen Shinnaberry and Mike Semer, both from Van Wert, met 18 years ago putting on gospel music concerts locally at places like Fountain Park, the Apple Festival, and Old Fashioned Farmers Days. Allen was the sound tech. Over the years the two became close friends, “like brothers.”
