VAN WERT — The VWHS Athletic Booster Club Spaghetti Supper and Pep Rally Wednesday evening in the school cafeteria was a huge success. Dinner was served from 5 – 6:30 p.m. The meal consisted of spaghetti, bread stick, salad and a cookie, with lemonade, water and tea available to drink. Tables were full of students and families excited to begin a new year. Moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, big sisters and little brothers all turned out to support their favorite athlete.

The Athletic Booster Club raises money to help with expenses for all the school sports. Fall sports at Van Wert High School include football, cheerleading, volleyball, golf, tennis, cross country and soccer. This year one of the larger projects needing funded is to resurface the track, which must be done every 10 years. Believe it or not, this is the beginning of the 11th year for the new Van Wert High School.

“I have three student athletes this year,” said one mother and Athletic Booster volunteer. “Two freshman and a senior. Helping with the boosters helps them have what they need.”

Following the pep rally in the Niswonger Performing Arts Center, the athletes and their parents attended the mandatory Ohio High School Athletic Association pre-season meeting which lays out participation rules and regulations as well as health and safety measures.

Athletic Director Ben Laudick was available to those wishing to purchase football season tickets and student passes.

Sponsors for this event were Van Wert Propane, Inc., Laudick’s Jewelry, Van Wert Family Physicians, Greve, Van Wert Manor, Straightline Body & Paint, Leland Smith Insurance Services, Cowan & Son Funeral Home and Parrish Orthodontics.

“Thank you to the Athletic Boosters for a fantastic Cougar Pride Night,” tweeted Laudick. “What a great way to start the fall sports season!”
