VAN WERT – The excitement of a true American original returns to the historic and refurbished half-mile oval when harness racing once again comes to the Van Wert Fairgrounds this Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday afternoon, Aug. 29 at 1 p.m.

Van Wert’s Speed Committee of Roger Wilkin, Aaron Kittle and Dustin Poling have worked, along with Race Secretary Bill Peters, to put a fine program together of Ohio Fair Racing Conference Harness 2 and 3-year-old colt and filly, both trotters and pacers, for each day.

On Tuesday evening the Peony Open Pace is contested as part of the summer-long Signature Series and the area’s top pacers go head to head.

Also on Tuesday the Spring Haven Farm Ladies Driving Series is being offered in two divisions as Ohio’s Lady Drivers get to do battle again.

This year, sponsored along with the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, it is the Ladies Drive Against Hunger, and canned non-perishable food items will be accepted at the Racing With The Stars tent. Bring a can and get a koozie. Donate five cans and take home a T-shirt. It all benefits your local food charity.

Then on Thursday afternoon the action continues as the OFRC juveniles strut their stuff and the Harvest Trot, an Open event for 4-year-old and up trotters, promises a good mile.

On both days be sure to stop by the OHHA Racing With The Stars tent and enter in its contests open to everyone, free of charge. Perhaps you’ll win the Fan Contest and get to go to the Winners Circle just like an owner, get a copy of the Win Photo, and receive prizes that include a $25 grocery/gas gift certificate. You can also enter “Text Back” where we will text you to let you know you’ve won a T-shirt and you can play “Text Trivia” from your seats in the stands as you find the answers in the racing program to the questions… just be quick about it!

It’s all part of the fun and excitement and the flavor of the Fair so come on out and enjoy yourselves!

I can hear the Starter call the horses to the gate… it’s almost post time!
