VAN WERT – The following cases were seen in the Court of Common Pleas by Judge Martin Burchfield:

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2019

JURY TRIAL

Thomas Rupert, 65, Van Wert, was found guilty on two counts of gross sexual imposition, F3, by a jury after a three-day trial. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Dec. 18 at 10 a.m.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2019

CHANGE OF PLEA

Stephen Davies, 39, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to possession of cocaine, F5, and assault, M1. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Dec. 18 at 9 a.m.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2019

ARRAIGNMENT

Curtis Coleman, 48, Lorain, Ohio, entered a plea of not guilty to aggravated trafficking drugs, F5, aggravated possession drugs, F3, weapons under disability, F3, aggravated trafficking drugs, F4, and aggravated trafficking drugs, F4. He was released on a surety bond with pretrial set for Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.

CHANGES OF PLEAS

Sarah Stephenson, 44, Fort Wayne, changed her plea to guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, F5. She then requested and was granted intervention in lieu of conviction and her case was stayed pending completion of the treatment program.

SENTENCINGS

Caleb Mendez, 23, Decatur, Indiana, was sentenced on two counts aggravated trafficking drugs, F3, and trafficking fentanyl-related substance, F4. Sentence: on each of the trafficking drugs charges, F3, he was sentenced to 24 months prison, and on the fentanyl charge, he was sentenced to 12 months prison, all concurrent, with credit for 22 days served. He was ordered to pay court costs.

Robert Ericson, 57, Van Wert, was sentenced for domestic violence, F4. He was sentenced to 15 months prison, with credit for 116 days, and ordered to pay court costs.

Valerie Parent, 38, Delphos, was sentenced for tampering with records, F3, and Medicaid eligibility fraud, M1. She was sentenced to three years community control, one year intensive probation, 30 days jail at later date, 50 hours community service, substance abuse and mental health assessment and treatment,  and ordered to pay restitution of $3,759 to Van Wert County Job and Family food program, pay partial appointed counsel fees, and pay costs.

Doniven Helm, 22, Van Wert, was sentenced for domestic violence, M1. He was sentenced to two years community control, 60 days jail with work release 30 days jail at later date, 50 hours community service, substance abuse and mental assessment and treatment, one year intensive probation, and ordered to pay monthly probation fee, partial appointed counsel fees, and costs.

VIOLATIONS

Austin Clark, 21, Van Wert, admitted to violating his community control by failing to report to probation. He was sentenced to 47 days jail, credit for seven days served, $250 fine, partial appointed counsel fees, and court costs.

Alexander Chorvas, 24, Van Wert, admitted to violating his bond by failing to report to probation. A new bond was set at $25,000 cash or commercial surety. Trial date to be set on the underlying charge.
