VAN WERT – The unofficial results came in later than usual on Tuesday night, but Van Wert elected a new County Treasurer and a new County Auditor.

Nathan Vandenbroek was elected Van Wert County Treasurer with 7,084 votes to Bonnie Thatcher’s 3,451.

“I’m very honored and excited to be able to serve Van Wert County,” said Vandenbroek after the results were announced at the Van Wert County Board of Elections. “The goal was to represent the folks here first and foremost. When we got into the position after Bev retired we had that in mind to be fiscally responsible. I’m very excited and honored with the opportunity to serve and I’m moving forward.”

Vandenbroek said he has nearly received all of his continuing education hours that are required to be County Treasurer. He was nominated as interim Country Treasurer in September after Beverly Fuerst retired.

Van Wert County voters voted Phil Baxter in as County Auditor with 6,539 votes to Sara Lape’s 4,085.

Baxter was not available after the results for comment.
