    VAN WERT – When first-grade teacher Mary Yackey heard about the pilgrim walk, “Way of St. James,” across Spain, she said to herself, “that is what I need in my life,” and she decided to move forward with it.

    VAN WERT – Students at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Van Wert have been spending time this week learning the deeper meaning of Holy Week activities. In addition to the meaning of Christ and the cross, many are also looking forward to celebrating Easter with family and friends, as well as enjoying Easter egg hunts.
  • Van Wert team wins Titan Tournament
    VAN WERT — Decisions, decisions, always decisions. We make them multiple times on a daily basis. They range from what to have for breakfast or what to wear to work to what careers we enter and what vehicles and homes we chose to buy. A number of high school students learned the importance of good decision making through a Junior Achievement program called Titan and on Wednesday evening they demonstrated what they learned.

    ADA — The Lady Knights are now 11-4 after a convincing victory over Ada on Thursday. Crestview knocked two homeruns, Lexi Gregory and Aleigh Chesbro. Kalie Small held her own on the rubber, as she allowed just four hits in the shut out performance.
  • Harold Eugene ‘Gene’ Beams

    ROCKFORD, Ohio — Harold Eugene “Gene” Beams, 89, of Findlay, died at 10:28 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Findlay Bridge Hospice Care Center while surrounded by his loving family. He was born Sept. 26, 1929, near Coldwater, Ohio, to the late Mabel “Williamson” and David A. Beams III.

  • VAN WERT — Van Wert baseball has been playing excellent baseball this season but have really found their stride over the last few weeks. Since a pair of setbacks to state respected programs in Defiance and Fairview the Cougars have been on a streak outscoring their opponents 32-1 over the past three games.
  • It’s almost time for my favorite “holiday” – Earth Day! Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22. For the past several year’s, I have usually done something special to honor this wonderful planet we all call home.
